2023 Kosta Browne One-Sixteen Russian River Valley Chardonnay
Kosta Browne Winery was founded in 1997 by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne while working together at a restaurant in Sonoma. It has been under the ownership of the Duckhorn Portfolio since July, 2018. The winery is located in Sebastapol, California and crafts luxury-styled Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They also source fruit from vineyards in Willamette Valley, Sonoma Coast, Santa Rita Hills, Santa Lucia Highlands and Anderson Valley. They also have a 'Burgundy Series’ with fruit acquired from Gevrey-Chambertin, Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, and Mersault.
This Chardonnay is produced from one of the best vineyards in the Russian River Valley and has that WOW factor! It utilizes clones from Robert Young, Montrachet, Wente 548, 95, Hyde and Clone 4. Pale yellow in appearance with green edges, it has explosive aromatics of lemon curd and iced espresso. This is a confident and carefully constructed Chardonnay that leans into elegance without abandoning concentration. The framework of this beauty is composed of orange blossom, lemon oil, shortbread, sweet toasted oak and a drizzle of toasted butterscotch. The core of this wine is complex and expansive and nicely balanced with an uplifting of acidity and crushed minerality.
