2023 Kosta Browne Rosella’s Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Kosta Browne is a winery in Sebastopol, California, specializing in luxury Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Kosta Browne was founded in 1997 by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and is currently owned by Duckhorn Wine Company.
Rosella's Vineyard is described as “Rolling Vineyards Amongst the Lemon Groves.” Made by Julien Howsepian who joined the estate in 2012 working his way up alongside Michael Browne, co-founder of Kosta Browne, to winemaker in 2019. The Kosta Brown Rosella’s Pinot Noir is a sexy, seductive wine. It’s a textbook example of what the Pinot Noir grape is capable of in the right hands. The color is bright ruby, showing purity in the glass. Initially restrained, but as the wine had time to aerate, it opened to a dazzling display of violets, cherry cola, raspberry coulis, baking spices and a hint of cedar, all wrapped in underlying notes of cured meat and earth. The palate is elegant and layered with juicy red fruit and round tannins. It is well integrated with lively acidity and nicely balanced, giving way to a long luxurious finish that goes on and on. The 2023 Kosta Brown Rosella’s Pinot Noir is one of the finest examples from this storied vineyard planted by legendary Gary Franscioni. It is beautifully made by Julien Howsepian who is continuing the legacy of this amazing winery.
