Santa Rita Hills
When Santa Barbara is referenced, you reminisce about a resort
community set along a backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and Santa
Ynez Mountains. In reality, Santa Barbara is one of the premier wine
growing regions of California’s Central Coast, planted with over
27,000 acres of vineyards from more than 250 wineries. A corridor of
east to west mountain ranges and vineyards separates Santa
Barbara into seven wine growing AVA’s. Each has a collection of
diverse soils and microclimates that are influenced by the lengthy,
cool ocean breezes. Included are Santa Maria Valley, Santa Rita
Hills, Ballard Canyon, Happy Canyon, Los Olivos District, Santa Ynez
Valley and Ausos Canyon. There are over 70 different grape varietals
grown in this region. These conditions are conducive for breeding
concentrated wines that are highly aromatic with racy vibrant fruits
and complemented with savory spices.
