2021 Ehlers Estate Jean Leduc Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Mike Wolf, one of the leading viticulture experts in Napa Valley, whose past and present clients include To Kalon, Scarecrow, and Vine Hill Ranch, manages this vineyard. The Jean Leducq Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single block on the estate and pays tribute to founder Jean Leducq’s legacy. The 2021 Ehlers Jean Leduc is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. In its youth, it is expressive, powerfully seductive from the first swirl in the glass, to the first sip. Then the wine takes your palate on the ride of your life in flavor complexity. The color in the glass is deep, almost opaque. The aromas have incredible depth of pomegranate, boysenberry, melted dark chocolate, cigar box, and a hint of flint. The palate has flavors that are intense, with layers of dark cherry, baking spices and finely grained tannins giving the wine a dusty texture. I found this to be very pleasant and adding to the wine’s complexity, the flavor continues through the finish that goes on for several minutes. The Ehlers Jean Leduc is a great representation of the highly rated 2021 vintage of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It will age gracefully, gaining additional balance and elegance 10 Years + in the bottle. This wine left a lasting impression.
