2022 Sangiacomo Four Siblings Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast
In 1913, Vittorio Sangiacomo immigrated from Genoa, Italy arriving in New York and later traveling to San Francisco. In 1927, he would purchase a 55-acre parcel of land designated as Home Ranch in Sonoma and cultivate a pear orchard. While growing his family of four, Angelo, Bob, Buck and Lorraine, Vittorio continued to purchase land and expand the business. By 1969, he shifted from pears to cultivating grapes and planting his first vineyard in Green Acres, Carneros. In the 1980’s, they began the conversion of pear orchards to planting grapes on their Home Ranch in Sonoma. The first inaugural vintage of Sangiacomo Wines was in 2016 and the renovation of the winery and tasting room was completed in 2021.
This wine is composed of Old Wente Clone Chardonnay sourced from the original Green Acre, Heritage Block vineyard. It is fermented and aged in French Oak and concrete egg from France. This wine shimmers with a pale yellow hue as it unravels a vibrant bouquet of salted yellow citrus and hints of almond croissants. Within the core you are greeted with notes of spiced apples, lemon zest, tangerine oil and a layer of creamy brown butter. There is a delicate streak of minerality and freshness that adds to the overall texture of this wine. This artistically crafted Chardonnay is immensely complex with a lush mouthfeel that offers endless pleasure from the first sip through the long finish. Congratulations to winemaker James MacPhail and his team.
