This ancient vines Zinfandel vineyard was planted on the estate in1904. The old, deeply rooted vines yield a sumptuous and lavish Zinfandel. The color opens with a deeply opaque-purple. The aromatics are sexy, ripe and jammy, which is the way I love my Zins. Aromas are lavender blossoms, blueberry, black cherry, exotic spices, black pepper and a whiff of earthiness. The palate is thick, rich and layered with dark fruit, spices and a backdrop of silky tannins that are woven through the wine like fine lace. The mouth-feel is viscous, lush and harmonious leading to an effortlessly long finish. I have tasted several vintages of Zinfandels from Croix Estate. The Croix 1904 is a delicious wine and typical of the quality of Zinfandels I have savored in the past. I would encourage Zinfandel lovers to try these wines from Croix. You will amazed as I have been.
