2015 Barr Estate Winery "Dane Head"

Barr Estate Winery is a small family-owned and operated vineyard, boutique winery and tasting room, located on the east side of Paso Robles. The property is situated in the Geneseo District, where the warm days and cool nights are proving that their vineyard site is ideal for grape growing. The vineyard is home to a diverse set of varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Primitivo, Tannat, and Albariño are all grown on their 57-acre vineyard and then crafted into their single vineyard estate wines.
This wine, “Dane Head”, is a blend of estate grown 51% Malbec, 18% Petite Sirah, 18% Petite Verdot, and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Color: Dark, on the opaque side, with a clear, deep garnet hue, highlighted with hints of brick-orange.
Aromatics: Powerful, mature aromas of chocolate, cocoa, and dark fruit jam; hints of black pepper.
Taste Profile: Dry, on the full-bodied side with fresh acidity, this medium-bodied wine displays a moderate level of round tannins accompanied with good balance. Flavors sing out with robust dark fruits, black pepper notes. The finish is medium-long, and gentle.
Food Pairing: The thought of barbecued beef brisket jumped into my head; I think that this wine is appropriate with a wide range of “comfort foods”. The winery recommends “barbecued hamburgers, chicken burritos, crawfish etouffee, or blackened fish.” This says “versatile” to me.
