2015 Champagne Palmer & Co. Grands Terroirs
“Founded in 1947, Palmer was named after the British biscuit maker Huntley and Palmers, which in France immediately post-war was unaccountably seen as the epitome of good taste. It now boasts 300 growers as cooperative members and is rooted in the Montagne de Reims plateau of Champagne, with more than 200 hectares of vineyards classified as premier and grand crus.” There are five enologists involved with this cooperative.
Each time I taste the wines from Palmer & Co. I realize that they are among the finest grower Champagnes in the market in addition to being a great value. The blend is 50% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir, and 12% Meunier with a 7 g/l dosage. Sourced from grand cru parcels of Mailly and Verzenay. This Champagne reveals inviting aromas of buttered piecrust and hazelnuts. Underneath the fine bubbles the wine is etched with white flowers, preserved lemons, salted butter and crushed chalk. The textures are finely sculptured and luxurious. This wine speaks of sophistication and elegance as it leads you to a pristine finish.
