2017 Craggy RangeTe Muna Road Vineyard, Pinot Noir

With a desire to create a family legacy, Terry and Mary Peabody founded Craggy Range winery in 1993 within Hawks Bay. In 1999 they purchased 230 acres of farmland in Martinborough planting Pinot Noir and some Sauvignon Blanc. It was named Te Muna Road vineyard. There are two unique terraces in this plot of land, the higher terrace comprising of very old rocky clay-infused soils for Pinot Noir. The lower terrace consists of gravelly soils interwoven with limestone for Sauvignon Blanc. In 2014 the winery was recognized by Wine Enthusiast as the ‘New World Winery of the Year.”

This Pinot Noir has a subtle crimson hue with an aromatic expression of grilled meats and spice nuances. The core is interwoven with pomegranate, red licorice, ripe red plums and a touch of herbs. It is harmonious and beautifully balanced with a silky texture that reveals itself after a few minutes. The abundance of juicy fruits, delicate acidity and finely grained tannins makes this wine immediately appealing upon opening. It is also a great value for the price.
