2018 Archery Summit "Dundee Hills" Pinot Noir

Archery Summit was founded in 1993 by former Olympic skier Gary Andrus in 1993 It is within the Dundee Hills appellation of Willamette Valley, Oregon. Gary had many accomplishments with Cabernet Sauvignon with his Napa Valley project, Pine Ridge Winery, but was enamored with Pinot Noir and its expression in Burgundy, France. Following his dreams, he relocated to Oregon to focus on Pinot Noir. Gary and Ian Cumming established the Crimson Wine Group with Pine Ridge Winery and Archery Summit in 1993. Gary died in 2009 The winery now has 100 acres including five estate vineyards within four of Willamette Valley’s AVA’s. They produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.

This is a richly designed Pinot Noir from the warmer Dundee Hills appellation. My initial impression of this Pinot Noir was “sinful” due to its opulent floral aromas and extraordinary, exotic expression. This deeply ruby-opaque wine has a youthful personality along with a brooding flavor profile. There are scents of rose petals and dried flowers, which open to an assortment of black raspberries and freshly picked Morello Cherries. The inner core is infused with Asian spices, Oolong tea and cinnamon There are layers upon layers of black fruits that have nicely rounded and ripe tannins making it very approachable. The delicate touch of acidity keeps this wine balanced and fresh.
