2018 Goldeneye Split Rail Pinot Noir

In 1997, Goldeneye Winery, located in the heart of Anderson Valley, harvested its first grapes, a modest seven tons of estate fruit, yielding 375 cases of wine. After a decade of research, planning and experimentation, Goldeneye's inaugural vintage was announced in March of 2000. By focusing on the careful cultivation of its estate vineyards, Goldeneye has been able to grow, while remaining true to its philosophy of being a small, quality-driven winery.

The 2018 Goldeneye Split Rail Pinot Noir shows dark ruby color through to the edges in the glass. This opulent expression of Pinot Noir is brimming with alluring aromas of mixed berry, ripe strawberry, dark raspberry and plum as well as notes baking spices and anise. The palate is mouth filling, tannins are finely grained and is deliciously framed with just the right amount of acidity, persistent berry flavors and subtle flavors of exotic spices carrying the wine to a lengthy rich finish. With every swirl and sip the Goldeneye Split Rail Pinot displays complexity, sophistication and for me one of the finest expressions of Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley. It should gain additional balance and elegance with up to 10 years in the bottle.
