2018 Robert Biale Monte Rosso Zinfandel

These grapes were sourced from the Louis Martini vineyards atop the Mayacamas Mountains in Sonoma. They were originally planted in 1890. This wine presents itself with much more intensity and a rustic edge that is typical of higher elevation mountain fruit grown in iron rich, red volcanic soils. It is a potpourri of mixed black and blue berries intermixed with espresso, leather and a touch of graphite. This brambly, spicy wine has a juicy, mouthwatering core that beckons you for another sip. The extraordinary complexity of this mountain-styled Zinfandel will be better appreciated with a little bottle aging. By W. Peter Hoyne
