2018 St Supery Rutherford Estate Merlot

The history of St. Supery dates back to the late 1800’s when brothers Louis and Joseph Atkinson purchased the 153-acre estate located in Rutherford, Napa Valley. After its demise, the property was acquired by Frenchman Edward St. Supery. In 1985, Robert Skalli acquired the estate and residence expanding it with acreage on Dollerhide Ranch. By 2015, the winery and property were sold to Chanel Inc., which already owned several chateaux in Bordeaux, France.

This 100% estate Merlot is composed of 88% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot aged for 19 months in French Oak (44% new). This opaque-ruby wine opens with lively, red fruit scented aromas. Within the core are red cherry preserves, ripe macerated red raspberries, vanilla bean and brown spices. These elements all come together to form a silky mid–palate, which is nicely balanced with delicate acidity and finely grained tannins.
