2019 Avignonesi Desidero Merlot Toscana

The family estate of Aviognonesi has deep roots in the Tuscan countryside and resides in the town of Montepulciano, Italy. Belgium lawyer, Virginie Saverys moved to Tuscany in 2007 and acquired the estate in 2009. The property consists of 432 acres of certified organic and biodynamic vineyards. Savery’s intention was to “take on an established winery recognized for its quality, innovative research and experimentation and take it to a new level of excellence,” expressing the authenticity of Montepulciano. The estate has become the largest biodynamic winery in all of Italy.

Desiderio was a name bestowed on a bull which lived on Avignonesi’s farm in Montepulciano more than one hundred years ago. This 100% Merlot is aged for 20 months in large oak barrels. This medium garnet wine guides you down a road of elegance and finesse. It is vibrant and delicately fragrant with pomegranate, cranberry, rhubarb, red licorice and dried tobacco. The acidity is pleasing, soft and inviting. The core is integrated with a hint of vanilla bean, cooking spices and black pepper leading you to a caressing finish.
