2019 Brecon Estate Haggis Brasher
Brecon Estate is a boutique estate winery that was created by Simon and Anna Hackett and Damian and Amanda Grindley, with Damian overseeing winemaking. The winery and vineyards are nestled in the rolling westside hills outside of Paso Robles, California.
The wines are small batch ferment with each wine having a story behind it. They are sold exclusively through the Brecon tasting room and tend to sell out rapidly.
The Brecon Haggis Basher blend is 98% Syrah, 2% Viognier and only 199 cases are produced. This attractive and beautifully made red takes you on a wonderful journey that opens with a vibrant deep ruby color. The nose shows overtones of blackberry, fresh pepper, baking spices and vanilla with undertones of forest floor, and cedar. The palate is rich, soft, and the tannins are velvety with a surprising brightness from just the right amount of acidity. It is typical of this Cote-Rote inspired wine with a long, beautiful and delicious finish that leaves you desiring more. The wines name Haggis comes from a Scottish national dish that has been banned in the USA. The winery name hails from the discovery of a particularly tight, gnarly cave passage under the Brecon Beacons National Park. Can you imagine discovering this wonderful piece of nature?
