2019 Carol Shelton Monga Old Vine Zinfandel, Cucamonga Valley

In 2000 Carol established the Carol Shelton brand with husband Mitch Mackenzie. Her focus is on sourcing Zinfandel from select vineyard sites including regions in Russian River Valley, Dry Creek, Rockpile, Lodi and Mendocino. She emphasizes Zins unique flavor and sense of place from each site using the right yeast and seasoned with the best barrels to complement each wine.

The 2019 Monga Zinfandel is 100% Zinfandel from a scattered parcel next to Highway 210 and 15, east of Los Angeles in Cucamonga Valley. This Zinfandel is an all-out energy-driven red wine. This wine is a whole other level in winemaking of California Zinfandel. It is concentrated and textured with a zesty full mouth-feel that livens your taste buds at every sip. The color is bright ruby and glistens in the glass. There are aromas of rich black fruits, exotic spices and a hint of toasted oak. The flavor is super rich and the tannins are juicy and refined with a creamy texture that is persistent through a long finish. Carol Shelton is hitting her stride, making some of the best Zinfandels from California. The 2019 Monga Old Vines is a fine example of her winemaking skills and is worth seeking out.
