2019 Domaine de Juchepie Les Paradis de Juchepie Chenin Sec
Eddie, and Mileine Oosterlinck-Bracke, originally from Holland, reside in Anjou and craft very complex Chenin Blanc. Their old vine vineyards are between 60 - 110 years-old and low yielding. They produce the ‘Le Paradis de Juchepie’ label from their Domaine de Juchepie estate. It is fermented in an old basket-press and matured in 50% new and 50% old barriques. The wine also undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation.
This is one of the complex and delicious wines from the Loire Valley tasting that really captivated me. In the glass the color displayed a light golden hue. Aromas of candied honey, cognac, give it a slight sweetness along with a hint of minerality (from the volcanic and sandstone soil). The sweetness persists through the mid-palate, with a hint of freshness and a wonderful mouthwatering finish. This Chenin Blanc was one of the favorites from the tasting.
