2019 Domaine La Boutiniere Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge

Domaine La Boutiniere was founded in 1920 by Felix Vidal. This family-owned company is now run by fourth generation winemaker, Frederic Boutin, who has been the owner and winemaker since 1997. Domaine La Boutiniere has 27 acres of vineyards in eight different parcels within Chateauneuf-du-Pape, including the Crus of La Cru, Le Boucou, Coste Froid, and Roumiguiere. Vines are an average of 70 years old, and the wines are produced from all 13 grape varieties allowed in the Chateauneuf appellation.
The 2019 La Boutiniere Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge is made in a blend of four varietals, 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Cinsault. The color is a rich ruby red that shows purity in the glass. The aromas express flowers, layered with red plum, black cherry, cinnamon spice, meat, and elements of garrigue. Medium bodied, elegant, tannins are present and persistent throughout the palate along with acidity on the finish. It is ready to drink now with aeration. The wine should obtain more balance with a few years in the bottle.
