2019 J. Rochioli River Block Russian River Pinot Noir
It is not too often that a single vineyard Rochioli wine comes across our tasting table since most of wines are Member List only. I would describe this wine as a complex Pinot Noir of the highest quality and classic Russian River Valley style. As we tasted, it became so apparent that this is a special Pinot Noir. From the onset, the color in the glass was brilliant ruby. As you swirled the wine, it glistened. Aromas out of the glass were expressive showing baked cherry, macerated cranberries, ripe plum, baking spices, truffle, and a hint of forest floor. The palate was plush and creamy showing refinement, elegance, polished tannins and was deftly balanced. This wine kept me asking for more. With each taste, it revealed an additional discovery. The finish was long and sophisticated with perfect acidity and spice, which lasted for minutes. You can taste the pedigree and dedication to traditional winemaking. There are over three generations of winemaking at Rochioli.
