2019 Jean-Luc Colombo Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Bartavelles

Innovation, passion, and dedication are what drive Jean-Luc and Anne Colombo, whose contributions to Rhône Valley winemaking have remained unparalleled since 1984. Colombo’s innovative approach in the northern appellation of Cornas was nothing short of revolutionary; his expressive, character-driven wines have helped breathe new life into this highly prestigious and acclaimed appellation.
Jean-Luc, Anne, and their daughter Laure, now head winemaker, continue to ensure the production of fine wines of typicity from major appellations of the Rhône Valley, as well as the Languedoc and Provence, while maintaining sustainable farming practices.

The Les Bartavelles Chateauneuf du Pape shows a pure-fruited blend of 45% Syrah, 35% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre. In the glass the color shows dark purple with ruby edges. On the nose, there are lovely scents of ripe red fruit, licorice, dried herbs, and sweet spice. This is a powerful and full-bodied wine with juicy tannins, lively acidity, and crushed stone on a moderate finish. This wine is very enjoyable in its youth with a hearty steak dinner.
