2019 Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc

Recognized as the “Queen of Pinot Noir”, Merry Edwards has had an illustrious five-decade career in winemaking. Her masters research analyzed lead in wine, leading to the discontinued use of lead capsules. Merry’s zeal, innovations and clonal research in producing Pinot Noir, resulted in establishing the region’s renowned reputation for this varietal. In 1997 she established Merry Edwards Winery on a 24-acre fruit orchard in the Russian River Valley. She has created a notable style based on winegrowing, intellect and phenolic research. Merry was inducted into the CIA’s Vintners Hall of Fame in 2013. French Champagne house, Louis Roederer acquired Merry Edwards Winery in 2019.

Over the years Merry Edwards has crafted some of the most prolific and distinctive Sauvgnon Blancs anywhere in the world. This Sauvignon Blanc is no exception to that rule. It opens with a pale yellow color that showcases aromas of Meyer lemon and lemongrass. Within is an assortment of fresh orchard fruits, bright yellow pears and brown baking spices all nicely wrapped with a silky layer of vanilla cream. There is enough delicate acidity to balance each component leading to a long and inviting finish. Congrats to the team for continuing this exotic style.
