2020 Carlo Hauner Hiera IGT

Hauner winery was established by Carlo Hauner Sr. in 1968 on the island of Salina, which is part of the Aeolian Islands. Carlo Hauner, Sr. began traveling the world in the 1940s. After living in Brazil, he returned to Italy, spending his holidays in the Aeolian Islands. He fell in love with the untouched scenery and was captivated by the ancient practice of drying Malvasia grapes. He purchased 49 acres of land and replanted the terraced vineyards, against the the backdrop of the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. After his passing in 1986, his son, Carlo Hauner Jr. took control of the winery

A blend of 60% Nero d’Avola, 30% Alicante and 10% Nocera from vineyards whose average is 25 years old.

Tasting Notes: Deep, ruby red in the glass; complex aromas with hints of ink, blackberry, black currant and subtle hints of oak, sweet spice, and chocolate. Flavors follow aromas, tannins are present but not overwhelming; a focused wine with bracing but well balanced acidity, medium long finish, velvety, complex and full bodied. Sicily should be proud!

Food pairing: Fresh tuna with caper sauce, flavorful and even spicy dishes.
