2020 Carol Shelton Wild Thing Old Vine Zinfandel, Mendocino

Carol Shelton exudes a spirited, energetic and fun loving personality that is translated into the style of Zinfandel that she creates. After completing her oenology studies at UC Davis in California, she honed her skills at Robert Mondavi Winery and later worked with famed winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff'. In 1981 she began a 19-year tenure as winemaker at Sonoma Vineyards before advancing to the Windsor Vineyard brand, where she managed nearly 45 different wines under their label. While working with different grape varietals throughout Sonoma, she developed a comfort level and passion for Zinfandel.

The 2020 Wild Thing Old Vines Zinfandel is a blend of 76% Zinfandel, 10% Carignane, 9% Petite Syrah and a 5% variety of reds. The wine is uplifting, energetic and flavorful. Aromas are red berry fruit, a hint of sweet tobacco, baking spices along with a hint of mocha and espresso. The palate is smooth and has a lovely texture. It remains nicely balanced. The finish is long, voluptuous, and darn good! This is one of the more stunning values in California Zinfandels. It is great for everyday drinking or with your favorite barbecue.
