True to their heritage, the Duckhorn Napa Valley Merlot 2020 is a stunning wine that embodies the beauty of Napa Valley Merlot. This wine is lovely and very approachable. It is composed of a blend of 80% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot from vineyards in Oak Knoll, Carneros, Calistoga, Rutherford and Yountville that is aged 15 months in French Oak. In the glass the color is a rich dark ruby. Aromas of ripe red fruits of cherry and raspberry illuminate from the glass. These elements are complimented by baking spices, cocoa, and a whiff of underbrush. The fruit hits the tightly wound palate with a good amount of acidity that keeps the flavors fresh. The finish is light, soft and has an elegance that marks it as a well-made Merlot. It is a tribute to the Duckhorn legacy in producing excellent wines even in a challenging vintage.
