2020 Old Ghost Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi

Nestled in the heart of Lodi’s most prestigious Mokelumne AVA, sit 750 acres of estate vineyards, many of which have been farmed consistently by the Felten family for six generations. Deeply committed to preserving the family’s ancient vineyards, Steve Felten founded Klinker Brick Winery in 2000 and is succeeded by daughter Farrah in its ownership. An extension of the family is head winemaker Joseph Smith. The soil is comprised of deep granite sandy loam, giving wines of this region a distinctive minerality. Situated at the edge of the Sacramento Delta, Pacific breezes gust through the Mokelumne AVA, cooling grapes, and creating a Mediterranean climate ideally suited for growing varietals such as Zinfandel, Syrah, and Alberino.

The Old Ghost represents the best Zinfandel that Klinker Brick produces each year. True to the style of Klinker Brick wines, bursts with bright flavors richness and concentration. The color is bright ruby that glows in the glass. The aromas are intense of ripe juicy cherry, blackberry notes of black pepper, baking spices and a hint of herbs. The palate is complex and richly textured with notable acidity. The tannins are firm yet smooth and add structure to this beautifully made wine. Tasted the next day the wine turned softer, creamy, and still very delicious. Pair with your favorite grilled meat with roasted vegetables.
