2020 Waypoint Wine Company, “Ritchie Vineyard” Russian River Chardonnay

Waypoint Wine Company is comprised of partnerships with renowned vineyards and artisan winemakers. This vineyard, Ritchie Vineyard, owned by Kent Ritchie, is in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. It is widely regarded to be among the very best Chardonnay vineyards in California. Planted in 1972, Kent has farmed this unique site with passion and personal attention. The terroir combines sandy soils from an ancient seabed with volcanic ash deposits and pockets of tufa rock. This vineyard’s sloping benchlands create a remarkably unique “Grand Cru” site that produces wines of intensity and great natural acidity.

This wine displays the full spectrum of lush tropical fruits in endless layers. Mango, pineapple, guava, white peach, and coconut oil all peek through while coating the palate. It is juicy, compact and complex, with a long creamy texture. There is a little ripe fruit sweetness and a long finish. It is reminiscent of a top-quality French Meursault. This is a classic expression from Ritchie vineyards.

This wine would enhance Dover Sole, lobster, Oysters Rockefeller, and other classic seafood dishes
