2021 Brandlin Estate “Henry’s Keep”, Mt Veeder
Located high on the steep slopes of Mount Veeder, Brandlin Estate produces mountain grown wines of distinct character and reflective of the terroir. The estate includes 49 acres of Napa Green Certified vineyards, located 900 to 1,250 above the fog line. The growing seasons are longer on Mount Veeder resulting in concentrated, perfectly ripened fruit. Brandlin Estate is a part of the Two Estates Wine Collective, which also farms Cuvaison Winery in Los Carneros in Napa Valley. Steve Rogstad, Vice President and celebrated winemaker is crafting some of the best wines produced from Mt Veeder.
Henry Brandlin is a pioneer of Mt Veeder first planting vines on the Brandlin Estate in 1926; vines that still thrive today. The 2021 Brandlin Henry’s Keep commemorates Henry and his sons and the wine that the family crafted from the finest vineyard parcels on Mt Veeder. Comprising 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Malbec, and 4% Petit Verdot, it is aged 22 months in new French oak barrels. In the glass the color shows deep opaque ruby with purple hues and a radiant viscosity. The fruit ascends out of the glass delivering dense, ripe fruit. Aromas of black plum and orange peel, violets, dark chocolate, roasted espresso, and a whiff of tobacco enhance the experience. The palate is richly layered with dark fruit and tannins that are plush and round. The lively acidity adds lift and mouthwatering freshness. The mid-palate is creamy to its core, continuing to a long-lasting finish. The winemaking skills of Steve Rogstad's deft hand and understanding of the terroir is what makes the 2021 Brandlin State Henry’s Keep truly special. The consistency in quality from Rogstad in every vintage is remarkable and noteworthy.
