2021 Dehlinger Garbro Ranch Russian River Valley Chardonnay
The Dehlinger vineyard, family operated since 1975, comprises 45 acres of rolling hillside vines on a mixture of Goldridge and Altamont soils in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. A landmark Octagon House, also dating from 1975, stands atop a hill near the entrance to the property. Varietals grown and produced are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, with a combined annual volume averaging 7000 cases. The winery is owned by winemaker Tom Dehlinger and his wife, Carole, who live on the property. Two of their four children, Carmen, and Eva Dehlinger have been involved full-time with the operation since 2008.
The Garbro Ranch has an interesting history dating back 100 years and was founded on Vine Hill Road in Sebastopol, California. In 2017, the Dehlinger Family located next door purchased the Garbro Ranch from their neighbors with the aim of keeping the property a family-owned farm and expanding their existing vineyard.
The 2021 Dehlinger Garbro Ranch Chardonnay has energy, wonderful balance and is a totally appealing white wine. The color opens with a light sparkling pale yellow color. The aromatics are floral, crisp, with fresh citrus, lemon peel, tangerine, a hint of slivered almond, and stone minerality. The palate is layered and deftly balanced with wonderful weight, a creamy core and bright acidity that is focused and persistent, leading to a long finish. This wine is made in limited quantity but is worth finding and is so delicious to enjoy now or hold up to 5 years.
