2021 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Grand Cru Hengst Riesling, Alsac-

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is a highly regarded winery located in Turckheim, Alsace, and has been producing a range of wines from its own vineyards across the region for more than 50 years.

A portion of the land that the Domaine currently rests on has been passed through the Humbrecht family since 1620. Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 through the marriage of two winemaking families. Vineyards owned by both families, mostly on the hillside sites of the Vosges Mountains, were amalgamated into one Domaine. Today the Domaine is run by Olivier and Margaret Humbrecht, who have been in charge since 1989.

Zind-Humbrecht currently has 100 acres under vine, with just under half located near the new winery in the middle of the Herrenweg vineyard in Turckheim. The rest of the vineyards are spread out between the regions of Hunawihr, Thann, Gueberschwihr and Wintzenheim.

In the glass, the color is bright yellow. The aromas are intense revealing notes of mineral, citrus (pineapple and lime) and a hint of bergamot. The nose has depth but is delicate, discrete, and opens up more with each swirl in the glass. The palate shows power and intensity. The structure of the palate is big, precise, and nicely focused. The acidity is well integrated with mind-blowing minerality and a slightly chalky edge. The texture adds lift and complexity leading to a long, elegant finish. This is a wine that will age gracefully over time.
