2021 DuMol Wester Reach Russian River Valley Chardonnay

Founded in 1996, DuMOL is a latter-day pioneer in the Russian River Valley. Winemaker, Viticulturist and Partner, Andy Smith, farmed the region for nearly a decade before joining in 1999. Associate Winemakers Julie Cooper and Jenna Davis, and Cellar Master Jaime Eufracio, have over 40 years combined experience at DuMOL. Winemaker/Co-owner Andy Smith and Associate Winemaker Jenna Davis have presented us with two breathtaking 2021 Chardonnays. They are both incredibly pure and brilliant in every way.

In producing the 2021 DuMol Wester Reach Chardonnay, “We have interwoven three of the Russian River Valley’s unique sub-districts, from the valley floor stretching westward to the coolest “reaches” of the coast. We build this blend in the vineyard, understanding how each site contributes signature fruit character, be it the richness and breadth of our valley floor parcels, the taut density and power of our ridgeline parcels, or the focus and intensity of our coastal parcels." The grapes come from vineyard sites Flax, Cornerstone, Heintz, Lorenzo and El Diablo.

The DuMol Wester Reach is consistently one of the finest produced Chardonnays from Russian River. The glistening yellow color opens with delicate aromas that are layered, clean and floral, lemon peel, honey, stone minerality and a slight undertone of chalkiness. The medium bodied palate is energetic and bright with a creamy texture and oily minerality. The acidity is nicely focused and persistent driving through to a long finish. The 2021 DuMol Wester Reach Chardonnay needs a little time to open to reveal its true expression and impeccable balance. You can drink now for immeasurable pleasure or hold for 5-7 years.
