2021 Merry Edwards Meredith Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Merry Edwards Winery was founded in 1997 and produces critically acclaimed terroir-driven Pinot Noirs and Sauvignon Blanc using site-specific viticulture in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations. Over two decades, Merry Edwards has assembled a stellar collection of vineyards and with her meticulous attention to detail crafted Pinot Noirs of immense depth, elegant structure, and exceptional longevity. Her Sauvignon Blanc is among the most sought after in the world.
Now a Certified California Sustainable Winery, the brand entered a new chapter after Merry’s retirement. Since 2019, Merry Edwards Winery has been part of the Roederer Collection, owned by Maison Louis Roederer in France. Merry’s handpicked successor, winemaker Heidi von der Mehden, and winery president Nicole Carter have taken up exactly where Merry left off, making wines that are treasured by Merry Edwards’ fans.

We are always excited when the opportunity comes to taste wines from Merry Edwards. The 2021 Meredith Estate Pinot Noir was incredible and so enjoyable to taste and is very hard to put down. The wine is very distinct in character from its Russian River Valley origins in Sonoma. In the glass the color is a glistening deep ruby with lighter ruby edges. Out of the glass the aromas are complex, vibrant, with ripe dark cherry, violets, tones of tilled earth It picks up pleasant accents of fresh cut herbs, rosemary, sage, and a touch of baking spices. The palate is leaning toward a more refined expression, but also with a classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir style. The wine has tension along with intensity, maintaining its beautiful balance through to the finish, which indicates the aging potential of 10 years+ of total enjoyment.
