2021 Moone Tsai Howell Mountain Hillside Blend, Napa Valley

When Mary Ann and Larry Tsai moved from the east coast to the Napa Valley in 1989, they had a dream of one day producing a portfolio of rare and remarkable wines crafted with exceptional fruit from some of the valley’s most heralded vineyards. The couple imagined a collection of wines that they could proudly share with family, friends and others, to create magical connections that can sometimes occur when sharing a great bottle.

The 2021 Moone Tsai Howell Mountain Hillside is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot. It is a wine that has a sense of place from the rustic hills of Howell Mountain. It profoundly highlights Phillippe Melka’s great winemaking skills. The color is deep opaque ruby with crimson edges. There are aromas of violets, ripe dark cherry, coffee bean, chocolate, with a hint of graphite and forest floor. The palate is full bodied, opulent and full of energy. The tannins are firm , yet juicy and characteristic of the highly rated 2021 vintage. The acidity helps to give lift and balance. The finish is long and lasting for several minutes. If you don’t have the patience to hold for a few years, decant this beauty after opening. The aging potential can carry this wine 10 – 20 years into the future.
