2021 Stemmari Grillo DOC
Stemmari is situated in the town of Acate within the Ragusa province. They cultivate their own vineyards along the ventilated southeastern coast of Sicily, on the two estates of Sambuca di Sicilia and Acate. Stemmari grows the indigenous grapes of Nero d’Avola and Grillo, in addition to the international varietals of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is owned by one of Italy’s largest exporters, Mezzacorona. The music notes on the label coincide with a song that describes the love story between the vineyard owner’s daughter Dalila, and one of the workers, Cantadoro. Stemmari means “coat of arms” and refers to the coat of arms at the entrance of the winery. This 17th century building was used as a residence for nobility.
The wine reveals a medium golden color with a fragrant candied nose of white peach and yellow citrus. It exudes a wealth of tropical fruits with mango, apricot and pineapple fruits drizzled with a touch of honey and vanilla bean. The mouthfeel is creamy and unctuous yet extremely well balanced. It is truly delicious with hints of acidity that keep it in line without going overboard. It finishes on an elegant tone.
