2022 Castoro Cellars Reserve Old Vine Viognier, Paso Robles

Castoro Cellars was established in 1983 by husband-and-wife team, Niels and Bimmer Udsen, with the goal of producing world-class wines from Paso Robles, CA. Being over 35 years old, Castoro Cellars is one of the oldest wineries in the Paso Robles AVA and has played a major role in the development of the region.
The winemaker, Tom Myers, has been making wine in Paso Robles since 1978 and joined the Castoro team in 1990. He is considered one of the most highly respected winemakers in California.
The Castoro Old Vine Viognier is Estate Grown in the Dos Vinas Vineyard on the east side of Paso Robles. The 2022 is 100% Viognier, has had no oak aging and clocks in at 13% alcohol. The color in the glass is a glistening light golden hue. The aromas are so appealing, pure, and expressive with orange blossom, pineapple, jasmine, a hint of crushed stone and a whiff of vanilla. The palate is lush with just the right amount of weight and perfect acidity. These elements give lift to a delicious mouth-feel, leading to a soothing and slightly dusty finish. The wines produced in Paso Robles AVA continue to impress the panel. They represent some of the best values of California. If you are in the market for a wonderful alternative to Chardonnay, the Castoro Old Vine Viognier should be one on the list!
