2022 Domaine Delaporte Sancerre Silex, France

Domaine Delaporte is situated in the picturesque village of Chavignol. This village is also recognized for its notable goat cheese, Crottin de Chavignol. Matthieu Delaporte is the third generation winemaker, who has been following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Vincent, and father, Jean-Yves since 2010. The estate is comprised of 81 acres of land that have been owned by the family for over 300 years.

This prestigious white wine comes from Sauvignon Blanc vines that are more than 50 years of age, planted in flint soil “Silex”. They are cultivated following traditional and sustainable farming methods. Deeply golden in color, you are welcomed by delightful aromas of flint and smoke upon opening. Don’t get distracted by the aromatics of this hallowed terroir for long, as an abundance of succulent tropical fruits gradually emerge from the glass. Honeysuckle, musk melon, mango and orange rind shavings fill the glass glazed with marzipan. Concealed in the background are notes of saline and earthy minerality that add an extra layer of intrigue and complexity to the wine. The graceful finish leaves a lasting and very memorable impression. This is an exhilarating wine that is certain to develop even more nuances with additional bottle aging.
