2022 Hillick & Hobbs North Ravine Estate Dry Riesling
Finger Lakes, NY

Paul Hobbs was one of 11 children who grew up on his family’s farm in upstate New York. Following the advice of local growers, Paul’s father, Edward, advised Paul to convert the family’s orchards into vineyards. The grapes would then be sold to wineries in the Finger Lakes region. Paul developed a fascination for Rieslings during his enology studies at UC Davis in California. In 2013 Paul and his brother David purchased a 78-acre estate in Finger Lakes with 25 acres of vineyards planted to Riesling. The vines are planted on steep slopes in sub-soils of slate. The winery name honors his mother Joan Hillick and his father Edward Hobbs.
.
The North Ravine Estate Dry Riesling is 100% barrel fermented and aged in a single 500L neutral French barriques. Pale yellow in appearance this wine unveils delicate aromas of fresh spring blossoms. Juicy Honey Crisp apples, Bosc Pears, orange rinds and a layer of lemon zest are elegantly packaged together, then tightly wrapped with natural acidity. The finish is persistent and memorable.
