2022 Lange Estate Winery Pinot Gris Classique, Willamette Valley

Accomplished musician and vintner, Don Lange along with his wife Wendy moved north from Santa Barbara, California to Dundee Hills, Oregon, establishing Lange Estate Winery in 1987. They were inspired by bottlings that they had tasted from Dick Erath and Eyrie Vineyards. 1987 was also the year that they produced their inaugural vintage of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris from purchased grapes in neighboring vineyards. Their estate vineyard was planted in 1988. Today, they have three estate vineyards totaling more that 60 acres under vine. Winemaking and vineyard management is now under the guidance of second generation Jesse Lange.

Youthful and lively, this is a refreshing Willamette Valley Pinot Gris with plenty to offer. It is nicely textured with accents of fresh honeydew melon, kiwi, Asian pear and ginger that are all packaged together with a lift of crisp, clean acidity. It remains light on its feet with hints of spices in the background. While this wine is appealing now, it is certain to develop even more complexity over time.
