2022 Weingut Robert Weil Riesling Kabinett, Rheingau, Germany

Weingut Robert Weil, one of the region's younger estates, is in the heart of Kiedrich, a village first documented in 950 AD. The estate cultivates vineyards planted 100% with Riesling grapes. Wilhelm Weil, the great-grandson of the estate's founder, carries on the tradition of uncompromising, quality-oriented practices in the vineyards and cellars. The historic manor house, the ultra-modern cellars and the vinothek stand side by side in a beautiful park – the same synthesis of old and new reflected in the estate’s winemaking philosophy.

The estate-grown Riesling Kabinett is made in the traditional, lighter style of Riesling. It is sourced from cooler, higher-elevation parcels adjacent to the estate's classified single-vineyard sites and includes fruit from pre-selections in the top sites. The Robert Weil Riesling Kabinett is light and lovely, with a pale yellow that sparkles in the glass. The aromas are lush and exotic fruits of apple and pear with undertones of citrus layered with minerality of steel and flint. The flavors are focused and tangy as the lively acidity is interwoven throughout the palate, leading to a juicy finish that is fresh and energetic. I thoroughly enjoy this Kabinett from start to finish. With a low alcohol level, it is easy to drink and enjoy with each pour.
