2023 Croix Richard Dinner Chardonnay, Sonoma Mountain
This well-recognized vineyard is situated on Sonoma Mountain at elevations nearing 2,400 feet above sea level. These Old Wente Clone Chardonnay vines are planted in well-drained volcanic and loamy subsoils that benefit from the cool, maritime influence. This wine undergoes 100% native yeast fermentation and is aged for 15 months in 45% new French Oak Barrels.
This Chardonnay has a deeply golden yellow color revealing the inner richness and exotic personality within. On opening the floral bouquet captures your attention with vibrant tropical flower aromas and honeycomb. The core is reminiscent of grandma’s freshly baked apple pie with a dusting of brown sugar intermingled with lightly toasted hazelnuts and a layer of buttercream. There is great concentration in this wine that is nicely balanced with delicate acidity. It remains long and vibrant on the palate for minutes leading to a very pleasurable conclusion. It is still youthful and is certain to offer many years of gratification.
