2022 Goldeneye Cerice Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
Goldeneye has been crafting premium Pinot Noir from its estate winery in California’s Anderson Valley since 1997, founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn with a focus on terroir-driven expression.
Anderson Valley, located in Mendocino County in Northern California, is best known for a few standout wines with Pinot Noir being its crown jewel. With the Pacific Ocean just 16 miles away, the cool, foggy climate produces elegant, Burgundy-style Pinot Noirs with bright acidity, earthy complexity, and red fruit character.
Goldeneye has earned praise as a well-established Duckhorn outpost that showcases Anderson Valley’s cool-climate potential. The winery draws from multiple estate vineyards, each contributing a distinct personality to its portfolio — and none is more singular than Cerise.
Perched high in the heart of Anderson Valley, the southwest-facing slopes of Cerise Vineyard climb from 700 to 1,700 feet in elevation, making it one of the winery’s most intriguing sites.
The dramatic topography of Cerise stamps the wine with unmistakable character and a truly singular expression of Pinot Noir: robust structure, lush red fruit, and earthy undertones.
In the glass, the 2022 Cerise opens on the nose with confidence and complexity, showcasing aromas of red and black cherry, hints of fennel and leather layered with dried herb. On the palate, firm tannins frame flavors of those juicy cherries and strawberries, with rustic bark and meat before giving way to a long, lingering finish that spotlight the lovely terroirs of the Cerise Vineyard and Anderson Valley.
It is aged in French oak for 16 months: 36% new, 64% neutral; 13.5% alcohol.
