Emmolo, Napa Valley Merlot
Charlie Wagner Sr. and his son Chuck founded Caymus Vineyards in 1972. Jenny Wagner, daughter of Chuck, worked alongside her father in the vineyards. She became winemaker of Emmolo Wine Co, which was founded in 1994 by her grandmother, Cheryl Emmolo. Jenny’s family has a long standing generational history in grape growing and the wine industry. Jenny’s brothers Joe and Charlie also have successful careers as winemakers.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from Napa’s Oak Knoll District with their first release in 2011. Emmolo currently produces a Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Sparkling wine. This is one of those sultry wines that you open immediately for instant gratification. The wine welcomes you with a wealth of ripe, red orchard fruits. It is as though you are savoring a slice of freshly baked cherry pie with warm baking spices and a touch of ground cinnamon. The texture is velvety and smooth leading to rich notes of milk chocolate, lightly roasted coffee and sandalwood. The full mouth-feel carries you to a long finish that is well balanced.
