NV Lionel Gosseaume Sauvignon Blanc

The Lionel Gosseaume family run an estate in the heart of the Touraine district of the Loire. It’s not surprising therefore to learn that the brand-new appellation AOC Touraine Oisly includes the village in which Lionel produces his wines.

This small estate has a series of rolling hills made up of clay, stone, and chalk soils. This delicious Sauvignon Blanc has an impressive fruit concentration and underlying power from low yielding vines. The grapes show a delightful mineral character and a quality level that compare favorably with the neighboring Sancerre district. Fermented in stainless steel tanks. There is no oak ageing.

This wine from the Loire Valley is a beautiful example of what the terroir around the plateau of Oisly can produce. In the glass the color is pale straw. This is an aromatic Sauvignon Blanc with pineapple, gooseberry, minerality and a whiff of sea salt. The wine is dry, round, and supple, slight oily in texture with beautiful refreshing acidity. On the palate, it gives immediate pleasure and has lovely weight and great length on the finish. Drink as an aperitif, with charcuterie, but also with smoked fish and your favorite goat cheese!
