Piper Sonoma Blanc de Blancs, Sonoma County
The Marquis d’Aulan family acquired Piper-Heidsieck in 1980 and founded Piper Sonoma
in 1980. The family’s vision was to create New World sparkling wines in Sonoma County using the méthode traditionnelle style and old-world winemaking techniques.
The grapes for this bottling are sourced from Sonoma County with a blend of 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Blanc. It undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle prior to disgorgement. A small percentage of older reserve wine is added to the bottling for added complexity. Older reserve wine is included in the liqueur d'expedition adding further complexity. Winemaking is under the guidance of Keith Hock.
Piper Sonoma has always flown under the radar with their sparkling wines. This wine reflects the freshness provided by the cool coastal breezes in the rolling hills of Sonoma County. Fine bubbles rise to the top behind a glimmering yellow background. The wine is delicately balanced with spiced apples, poached pears, citrus zest and a hint of crushed minerality. There are some elements of hazelnuts that add to the overall interest of this wine. This sparkling wine is built on finesse and elegance.
